Pre-Purchase Surveys
These is the most comprehensive type of marine survey and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. The finalized report is often used as a tool to negotiate specific repairs with the seller and possible adjust the selling price.
What’s Covered
Structural integrity of the vessel, electrical systems, propulsion systems, fuel systems, navigation equipment, on-board systems, cosmetic issues, and miscellaneous machinery.
What’s NOT Covered
Compression testing of machinery, oil analyses, pressure testing of tanks, and invasive inspections of inaccessible areas of the vessel.
Damage Inspections
These inspections are usually initiated by insurance companies or law enforcement in order to determine the cause and extent of damage to the vessel. During these inspections, we’re often asked to recommend repairs, review estimates, and determine the pre-loss value of a vessel.

These are performed so insurance companies can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk to insure. In order for the marine survey report to be accepted, most insurance companies require that the boat inspector be a SAMS accredited marine surveyor .
